Whitley Bay Sea Wall Repointing

Storm damage along the Whitley Bay sea wall had displaced sections of pointing, letting water get in behind the brickwork. Left unaddressed, repeated wave action and frost would keep forcing the joints open and pushing bricks out — a slow failure that only gets more expensive to fix at every stage.

A rope access team worked the length of the affected wall, raking out failed and damaged pointing and repointing with a mortar mix suited to marine exposure — sealing water out before the next storm could cause further damage, with no scaffold needed on a coastal structure that would have been awkward and costly to access any other way.

The wall was made watertight again ahead of the next storm season, with the full repair completed without closing the promenade or requiring marine-rated scaffold access.
