Offshore Wind Monitoring

Tyne Rope Access worked alongside a specialist sensor-installation company on a new offshore wind foundation structure design. The structures were designed to be floated out to their offshore position and then lowered to the seabed.

Monitoring sensors were being installed so the structure could be monitored offshore. TRA provided specialist access support around and within the structure while the other company carried out the sensor installation.

The structure presented unusual internal geometry and limited-access areas. Reaching the required working positions called for an approach suited to the shape of the structure and the work taking place inside it.

TRA worked alongside the sensor specialists to provide access to those difficult-to-reach positions. The access work supported their installation task; responsibility for the sensor installation remained with the specialist company.

The monitoring equipment was intended to accompany the structure offshore so it could be monitored after deployment. TRA's work contributed to those preparations by enabling access within and around the structure during the installation work.

This project shows the value of specialist access support alongside another contractor's expertise: reaching awkward working areas so the sensor-installation team could carry out its part of the project.
